This folder contains the file "lroc_target_master_May14.tab".

It is a tab-delimited text transcription of the

Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera Narrow Angle Camera Master Targeting Database

as of 14 May 2009:

  http://ser.sese.asu.edu/LSM/files/lroc_target_master_May14.xls

downloaded from: http://ser.sese.asu.edu/LSM/targeting.php   on 2010 Jan 09

"lroc_target_master_May14.tab" should open with most spreadsheet programs,
such as Excel (although some of the lines are very long, and may cause problems);
or it can be opened with any text processor, such as WordPad on PC's (be sure to
turn off "word wrap" (line wrapping) under View...Options...).

To improve readability, the following substitutions have been made for special
symbols appearing in the original spreadsheet:

  $(comma) -->  ,
  $(dblquotes) --> "
  $(apostrophe) --> '
  $(newline) --> | (with preceding and following space character)

--

The fields in the spreadsheet are:

site_name
site_id
Rationale
Priority
Descriptor - Human Artifacts
Descriptor - Impact
Descriptor - Regolith
Descriptor - Volcanic
Descriptor - Structural
Descriptor - General Morphology
Descriptor - Photometry
Descriptor - Polar Illumination
Descriptor - Other
lonv
latv

--

Further information based on examination of file:

site_name : a descriptive name, with no particular format

site_id : a systematic name of the form "LRO-665" where 665 appears to indicate
  the order in which the target entered the database (not all numbers are used,
  but the site between "LRO-665" and "LRO-667", which is listed as "LRO" with
  no number has been corrected to "LRO-666")

Rationale : descriptive text, sometimes lengthy, apparently supplied by the person
  adding/requesting the item to the database

Descriptors : "keywords" summarizing the rationale

lonv, latv : a series of selenographic longitudes and latitudes (separated by "::")
  defining the shape of the target area. Most coordinates appear to have been read
  interactively from UCLN2005-adjusted imagery (such as the ULCN2005 warped Clementine
  and Lunar Orbiter global mosaics). A few a listed as "pre-ULCN2005 in the "Rationale".
  Coordinate sets can range from a point (single pair of coordinates, one each in the
  lonv, latv fields) to a complex segmented line or closed loop.

Reference citing some of the source materials consulted for building the list:

  http://ser.sese.asu.edu/LSM/files/LPSC_40_jolliff_LROC_targeting_final_final.pdf

The 14 May 2009 list appears to contain the science and Constellation Program related
target requests mentioned in this reference, but not the many public target requests.
